How Long Before CA Income Protection Pays Out?

After signing up for income protection, a qualification period and possibly a waiting period (deductible) must pass before you’re eligible for payouts.

  • There is a 6-month qualification period during which you must not become unemployed.

  • If you’re transferring from another income protection policy, your coverage can start immediately, provided you’ve been covered elsewhere for at least 6 months up to the start date of CA Income Protection.

Once the qualification period is complete, you’ll be covered in the event of job loss.

Please note: If you have chosen a policy with a 30-day waiting period, you’ll need to cover the gap between your unemployment benefits and your previous salary yourself during that time.

When Does CA Income Protection Not Provide Coverage?

CA Income Protection only covers cases of involuntary unemployment. This means the insurance does not cover if:

  • You resign from your job voluntarily

  • You are dismissed due to your own fault or misconduct

Additionally, the insurance does not cover:

  • Pre-existing medical conditions or illnesses that you were aware of before taking out the insurance

  • Situations where you do not meet the eligibility requirements for CA Income Protection

  • Certain exceptional cases, such as force majeure events

As with any insurance, we strongly recommend reading the full terms and conditions to understand exactly what is – and isn’t – covered.

Who Needs Income Protection?

You can assess whether income protection is right for you by comparing your current salary with the maximum unemployment benefit (dagpengesats). If you believe you could manage comfortably on the maximum benefit — just under DKK 20,000 per month — then income protection may not be necessary for you.

On the other hand, if you notice a significant gap between your current income and what you'd receive on unemployment benefits, then income protection is likely worth considering.

It also depends on your job security. If finding a new job with a similar salary would be difficult in your field, then income protection can be a valuable supplement to your unemployment benefits through your a-kasse.
